The Storyline

Portland Timbers (4th, 8-4-5, 29pts) vs San Jose Earthquakes (8th, 6-7-4, 22pts)

It was dramatic, it was energetic, and it was a second consecutive come-from-behind victory for the Timbers as they defeated St. Louis CITY SC last Sunday afternoon at Providence Park. Antony showed his brilliance, earning ATT Goal of the Matchday honors for his equalizing effort, and David Ayala demonstrated why he's a top-candidate in Portland for the 2015 MLS All-Star Game with his game-winning stoppage-time set-piece goal.

The win propelled the Timbers back into the top-4 of the Western Conference and are currently within one point of second place.

Following back-to-back wins at home, Portland faces their final opponent in their three-match homestand: San Jose Earthquakes.

San Jose has been a tough nut to crack for Portland in 2025, with the Earthquakes having registered two wins over the Timbers – one in regular-season play and one in U.S. Open Cup play. Led by head coach Bruce Arena, the Quakes have the third-best offense across MLS with 34 goals scored thus far. It's their Designated Players that have been producing the most, wth Cristian Espinoza leading the club in goal contributions with 12 (4g, 8a). Cristian Arango and Josef Martinez have added nine and seven goals each, respectively. Portland, however, is undefeated in MLS play against San Jose at Providence Park (14-0-4).
