The Storyline
Real Salt Lake (11th, 4-7-1, 13pts) vs Portland Timbers (3rd, 6-3-3, 21pts)
Portland faces a quick turnaround following their 1-0 shutout win at home over SKC on Saturday and takes off towards Sandy, Utah for the second of three games in seven days.
Timbers forward Santiago Moreno delivered the greatest Mother's Day gift in recent times with an incredible goal just 10 minutes into the match. Moreno's goal was aided by assists from Antony and David Da Costa – the two are club leaders with seven and six, respectively. The defense showed out as Finn Surman and Kamal Miller kept SKC largely at bay, and when needed, goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau came up big, registering three saves en route to his first clean sheet of 2025.
On Wednesday, Real Salt Lake and Portland meet for the first time this season, the first of two matchups in 2025.
For RSL, it's been young stalwart Diego Luna who has been making headlines with his play as of late. In his last three matches, Luna has registered four goals, and is the Claret and Cobalt's leading scorer thus far with seven total tallys. In five games at home this season, Salt Lake has registered three losses and two wins, and breaking even on goals scored and goals conceded with 5 each.
Later this summer, Portland and Salt Lake will meet again on July 16 at Providence Park on a special 10th Anniversary of MLS Cup Celebration night.
