The Storyline
The Portland Timbers (10-9-8, 38pts) enter Matchday 31 in sixth place of the Western Conference. They are currently in playoff qualification position and are six points from reaching a top-4 conference spot. Minnesota sit in second place in the conference (14-6-8, 50pts).
Facing off for the 17th time in MLS history, the Timbers hold a 4-9-3 record with Minnesota in the all-time series. When playing away at Minnesota United FC, the Timbers are 0-6-1.
Portland and Minnesota will go head-to-head for the second time this season. Previously, the two met at Providence Park on July 19. Portland salvaged a stoppage-time result with Omir Fernandez scoring the equalizer in the 92nd minute for his first goal in Green and Gold.
