Cascadia Cup

It's MLS Rivalry Week, and despite all the other encounters going on accross the continent, it will be Portland-Seattle that carries the history and moments made for it.

This week's match is another chapter in this year's quest for the Cascadia Cup – the supporter-driven trophy contested between Portland, Vancouver and Seattle. As the reigning Cup-holders, the Timbers are still capable of defending their 2024 trophy despite the season-opening loss to Vancouver. Vancouver's win in Portland has put the Whitecaps onto the early Cascadia lead, but it has been the only Cascadia Cup encounter between any of the three teams to date in 2025, meaning the coveted Pacific Northwest silverware is still up for grabs.

Timbers 2025 Cascadia Cup Schedule:

The Storyline

Portland Timbers (4th, 6-3-4, 22pts) vs Seattle Sounders FC (6th, 5-4-4, 19pts)

It's the biggest matchup in Cascadia: Timbers vs Sounders. Both teams arrive to Providence Park on Saturday night with only three days of rest following midweek Matchday 13 encounters on Wednesday. The Timbers' quick trip to Sandy, Utah resulted in their second-consecutive shutout performance and fifth overall in 2025. Portland are now undefeated in their last two games and have only one loss in their last 10 MLS meetings.

The Timbers have not lost at Providence Park since the season opener, registering three wins and two draws with a +4 goal differential following Matchday 1.

Seattle comes off a lackluster performance at BMO Stadium on Wednesday, falling to Los Angeles FC in a 4-0 effort. Despite the loss in LA, the Sounders should not be taken lightly.

Before to their midweek matchup in SoCal, Seattle had been surging in the Western Conference, registering four wins in their prior five matches and outscoring their opponents by a blistering +8 goal differential (12-3). Forward Danny Musovski has stepped up for the Sounders scoring five goals in 11 games played (6 starts). Cristian Roldan (5), Jesus Ferreira (5), and Albert Rusnak (3) have all dished out assists over the course of the season, however it's newcomer Ryan Kent who's been garnering attention with his three assists in five matches (1 start).

Saturday marks the first of two meetings between the Cascadia rivals, with Portland traveling to the Puget Sound on October 4 in their penultimate match of the 2025 regular season.
