The Storyline
The Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders will face off for the second time this season. Porland and Seattle met earlier on May 7 in the Rose City, splitting points in a 1-1 draw. The MLS regular season series record between the two is currently even at 15-15-11 each. All time, Saturday marks the 124th meeting across all eras between the two sides, with Portland trailing 47-57-19.
Notably, Portland is undefeated in the Puget Sound in their last 10 meetings spanning over eight years of competition. Since their last defeat to the Sounders in Seattle on May 27, 2017, Portland is 5-0-5 in regular season play against their rivals on the road and have outscored Seattle 17-9 during that span.
The last time Portland travelled to Seattle, the Timbers claimed the 2024 Cascadia Cup title in a 1-1 draw with the Sounders at Lumen Field in the 2024 regular season finale on Oct. 19, 2024. After conceding a first-half goal to Seattle, Antony scored the equalizer for Portland in the 68th minute.
Captain Diego Chara has played the most games and minutes of any player in the MLS series between Portland and Seattle, playing in and starting 36 matches and logging 3,211 minutes against the Sounders. He leads all three categories for any player in league history against Seattle. Additionally, striker Felipe Mora has tallied three goals and two assists in 12 appearances (7 starts) against Portland’s rival. Also of note, Juan Mosquera has recorded two goals and three assists in six appearances (all starts) against the Sounders.
