Leagues Cup 2025 is just 100 days away.
It's shaping up to be a busy summer in the Rose City, with the Timbers set to compete in Leagues Cup 2025, playing for one of three coveted 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup spots.
In Phase One, the Timbers play host to Liga MX's Atlético de San Luis and Querétaro FC at Providence Park on July 30 and August 2, respectively. They then travel to Austin, Texas, to take on current Mexican champions Club América at Q2 Stadium on Aug. 6.
Tickets for the home matches with San Luis and Querétaro are on sale now through SeatGeek.
Should the Timbers advance from Phase One, the Knockout Stage awaits. With the MLS and LIGA MX regular seasons both continuing play through the month of August, most Leagues Cup knockout matches will be played midweek.
Welcoming the Potosinos to the Rose City
Playing in Portland for the first time is Atlético de San Luis; the official club for the state and city of the same name - San Luis Potosi. As part of an alliance with Atlético de Madrid from Spain's top flight La Liga in 2016, the club adopted the name, colors, and likeness of the Spanish giants following a majority acquisiton by the Madrid club. Since then, they've enjoyed success at the promotion level, earning top-flight status in 2019. The club has generally been a mid-table staple, and 2025 has been no exception.
Atlético de San Luis have been powered offensively by French striker Sebastian Lamonge this season, with the Frenchman responsible for six goals and two assists from 16 matches (15 starts). Uruguayan defender Juana Sanabria dished out five assists and added a goal in the Clausura 2025 season as well.
A duel with the Roosters in Portland
The Gallos Blancos of Querétaro FC will make their first visit to the Rose City this summer in Phase One. Hailing from the capital of the state of Querétaro, the club has been around in one way or another for nearly 75 years, spending various amounts of time in different tiers of Mexican soccer throughout its history. They have enjoyed a period of stability as of late, gaining promotion to Liga MX in 2008 and enjoying some success with some high-profile signings, including Brazilian legend Ronaldinho (2014-15). Their most successful run came in the Clausura 2015 tournament, where they reached the Liga MX finals.
In the current Clausura 2025 campaign, Querétaro has been eliminated from playoffs contention. Former Mexico international Pablo Barrera lead the Gallos Blancos this year with three goals and one assist.
Timbers and Club América meet again
The Timbers travel to Austin, Texas, for their final Phase One matchup against reigning three-peat Liga MX champions Club América. The showdown is happening at Austin FC's Q2 Stadium as the Azulcremas will host two of their three Phase One games in the Texas capital.
Portland and América recently met just four years ago in the 2021 Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals. The Timbers gave the Mexican giants a hard fight at Providence Park, earning a 1-1 draw in stoppage time via Felipe Mora from the spot. Ultimately the Timbers would suffer a 3-1 defeat in the second leg at Estadio Azteca.
Club América will have several stalwarts at their disposal for Leagues Cup 2025. In the Clausura 2025 season, four different players have registered five or more goal contributions, including leading goalscorer and U.S. international Alejandro Zendejas, who's racked up five goals and four assists so far in 2025 and Spanish midfielder Alvaro Fidalgo has provided five goals and three assists. The Azulcremas have qualified for the Clausura 2025 Liga MX playoffs in 3rd place.
