World Cup: U.S. lose to Germany but advance to knockout round

At the end of the day, it may have been a loss but it sure felt like a win. While Germany defeated the USMNT 1-0 in Recife, Brazil today behind a Tomas Müller 56th minute strike, the U.S. advanced for the second World Cup in a row to the knockout round.

It was nervy, but it was enough. It was also a match that featured seven players hailing from Major League Soccer and the U.S. became the third CONCACAF team out of the four World Cup representatives to advance.

All in all, not a bad day. Portland Timbers and Thorns FC players and fans were both keenly following the action.
