World Cup Notebook | Nadine Angerer makes key saves late as Germany advances to the quarterfinals

Nadine Angerer vs. Sweden 6.20.15

Germany, the #1-ranked team in the world, looked convincing against #5 Sweden in its round of 16 match, registering a 4-1 win over their European foes to advance to the quarterfinal round of the tournament.

Thorns FC goalkeeper Nadine Angerer made multiple key saves late in the match, including one in the final 10 minutes of the match. After cutting the lead to 3-1 in the 82nd minute, Sweden's Sofia Jakobsson found herself on a breakaway and one-on-one with Angerer, but the Angerer came off her line and made a sliding save to preserve the advantage.

Germany added a fourth goal late as Dzsenifer Marozsan managed to redirect a corner kick as she was losing her balance and directed her shot into the top right corner of the goal.

Angerer and Germany are on to the quarterfinals and will face the winner of France and South Korea on Friday, June 26, at 1 p.m. (Pacific) on FOX.
