World Cup Notebook | Nadine Angerer makes critical save in Germany's draw with Norway

Nadine Angerer, Germany vs. Norway, 6.11.15

In a surprise result to many, Germany drew 1-1 with Norway in their second Group B match of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup on Thursday.

Despite Germany outshooting Norway, 19-1, in the first half, the feisty Norweigans nearly tied the game in the 43rd minute, when Norway's Isabell Herlovsen sent a blistering shot on goal. Thorns FC goalkeeper and Germany captain Nadine Angerer brilliantly parried away Herlovsen's powerful shot.

But Norway stormed back in the second half and in the 60th minute, Norway's Maren Mjelde scored a brilliant, curling free kick goal from the top of the box.

Germany still leads the group on goal differential after defeating Ivory Coast 10-0 in their first match. The Germans will face Thailand in Winnipeg on Monday, June 15.

Also on Thursday, Thorns FC's Christine Sinclair, Kaylyn Kyle and Rhian Wilkinson will lead Canada against New Zealand in Edmonton at 6 p.m. (PT). Ahead of the match, take a look at this inside look from the NWSL at all the important numbers through the first few days of World Cup action.
