Timbers waive defender Chance Myers

Chance Myers, training

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers today announced that the club has waived defender Chance Myers.

Acquired by the Timbers as a free agent on Jan. 23, 2017, Myers, 30, made one appearance (1 start) in Portland’s match against Real Salt Lake on July 19, 2017, before sustaining a season-ending injury.

“In building our roster at the start of each season, we are always faced with difficult decisions that provide us with necessary cap space and roster room for projected additions,” said Gavin Wilkinson, general manager and president of soccer for the Timbers. “Chance has been a terrific teammate and a true professional in his time with the club, and throughout his career, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

Selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft, Myers spent nine seasons with Sporting Kansas City before signing with the Timbers, recording 147 league appearances (115 starts) during that stretch.

Transaction: Portland Timbers waive defender Chance Myers on Feb. 28, 2018.
