PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Timbers U-23s midfielder Zach Barnes was named an honorable mention on the Premier Development League (PDL) Team of the Week for the eighth week of the season, it was announced today by United Soccer Leagues.
Barnes scored the lone goal in the Timbers U-23s’ 1-0 win over the Kitsap Pumas on June 21 at Alder Creek Middle School in Milwaukie, Ore. Barnes converted a penalty kick in the 27th minute for the goal, his first of the season.
Barnes, 21, has played in all nine Timbers U-23s matches during the 2013 PDL season, and stands as one of only three members of the team to have played every minute of every match.
Two points out of first place in the PDL’s Northwest Division, the Timbers U-23s host a pair of matches this weekend. The Timbers U-23s face the Washington Crossfire today at Doc Harris Stadium in Camas, Wash., at 7 p.m. (Pacific), and face Victoria Highlanders FC Sunday at Hare Field in Hillsboro, Ore., at 12 p.m. (Pacific).
