PORTLAND, Ore. – United Soccer Leagues has announced that Portland Timbers midfielder/defender Eric Miller (Woodbury, Minn.) has been named to the Premier Development League Team of the Week for Week 4. Miller becomes the second Timbers U-23s player to earn Team of the Week honors in 2012.
Miller’s standout play last week helped the Timbers U-23s to a shutout victory over the Kitsap Pumas at JELD-WEN Field on May 24 and a road win over Vancouver Whitecaps U-23 on May 26. The Timbers U-23s have won each of their first five matches of the 2012 campaign and sit among the leaders in the PDL’s Northwest Division.
Since joining the Timbers U-23s on May 14, Miller, 19, has played in three matches and scored a goal. On May 26, Miller was selected to the U.S. U-20 National Team’s 20-man roster for a training camp and a series of international friendlies against Uruguay and Chile in South America; he will be on national team duty through June 12.
Additionally, forward Clark Phillips (Portland, Ore.) and midfielders Steven Evans (Troutdale, Ore.) and Cam Vickers (Lake Tapps, Wash.) were all named honorable mention on the Week 4 Team of the Week.
