PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers U-23s today announced that defender/midfielder Eric Miller has been called up by the U.S. U-20 National Team for a training camp in Houston and a series of upcoming international friendlies against Uruguay (June 6, June 8) and Chile (June 12).

Miller, 19, is scheduled to join the U.S. U-20 National Team today in Houston for camp. One of 20 players called into camp by head coach Tab Ramos, Miller has participated in each of the three previous training camps for the U.S. U-20 National Team in 2012. While on national team duty, he will miss four Timbers U-23s matches and is scheduled to return to Portland on June 13.

A native of Woodbury, Minn., Miller is in his first season with the Timbers U-23s. He has played in three league matches since joining the team May 14, scoring a goal in a 4-1 win over Victoria Highlanders FC on May 19. Miller also scored the Timbers U-23s’ lone goal in a 3-1 loss to PSA Elite in the first round of the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on May 15.

Miller had an impressive freshman season for Creighton University in 2011, playing a key part in the team’s run to the NCAA College Cup semifinals. He helped anchor Creighton’s backline that allowed just five goals last season, and was named to both the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman Team as well as to the all-freshman team by College Soccer News.
