The Portland Timbers make their way into the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the first time in over two years Tuesday when they travel to face Los Angeles FC in the Third Round. Here are some Timbers Tekkers numbers to know ahead of the match.

The Timbers will play in their 35th Open Cup match across all eras, dating back to 2004. Overall, Portland is 19-15-0 in Open Cup play, and 12-8-0 in its MLS era. Dairon Asprilla (2) and Sebastián Blanco (2) are the only active Timbers players to have scored in the tournament.

Portland will square off against LAFC in the U.S. Open Cup for the third time. The two teams faced off in the 2018 quarterfinals (a 3-2 loss) and in the 2019 quarterfinals (a 1-0 win). Both of those matches were also played at Banc of California Stadium.

The Timbers are unbeaten in their last six matches against LAFC (W3 D3), dating back to October 18, 2020. In 14 matchups across all competitions, Portland holds a 5-4-5 record over LAFC and 2-3-3 when playing at Banc of California Stadium.

Since the 2013 season, Portland has 10 wins over MLS teams in the U.S. Open Cup. The 10 wins are tied with Sporting Kansas City for the most wins over an MLS opponent in that timespan by a single team in the tournament.

The Timbers have won their first match of the U.S. Open Cup six out of eight appearances in their MLS era (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019). In the 2019 Open Cup, Portland beat the Sounders, Galaxy and LAFC to qualify for the semifinals for the second time in club history.
