Timbers select two players in first two rounds of 2019 MLS SuperDraft

CHICAGO – The Portland Timbers today selected two players over the first two rounds of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas, held Friday at McCormick Place in Chicago. The Timbers selected forward Ryan Sierakowski from Michigan State University in the first round (No. 23 overall) and defender Lennart Hein from Saint Louis University in the second round (No. 47 overall). 


A four-year starter for Michigan State University, Sierakowski, 21, appeared in 82 matches (82 starts) for the Spartans, recording 33 goals and 16 assists during that period. At Michigan State, Sierakowski received All-Big Ten first-team honors as a sophomore in 2016, including finishing second in scoring in the conference with nine goals and ranking first on the team with five assists. The Barrington, Ill., native was twice named to the All-Big Ten second team (2017, 2018) and was named to the Big Ten Conference All-Freshman Team in 2015.

Hein, 24, spent four seasons with Saint Louis University (2015-18), and appeared in 65 matches (64 starts) while totaling six goals and five assists. A native of Hamburg, Germany, Hein twice earned All-Atlantic 10 Conference first-team honors (2017, 2018), while being named to the Atlantic 10 Conference All-Rookie Team his freshman year in 2015. Before attending college, Hein played for the youth teams of German clubs Hamburger SV (2006-13), and SpVgg Greuther Fürth (2013-14). Additionally, Hein was involved in the German national youth system through the U-18 age.
