In their first visit to Missouri, the Timbers faced off against Western Conference leaders St. Louis City SC, seeking redemption for an early season loss to STL at Providence Park.

During the first 20 minutes, both teams grappled for control, with Portland dominating possession but struggling to capitalize on opportunities. In the 21st minute, the Timbers were forced to replace injured midfielder David Ayala with Cristhian Paredes. Despite St. Louis City SC regaining possession and testing Timbers goalkeeper Ivacic, the first half ended in a stalemate.

With vengeance on their minds, Portland brought the fight to St. Louis in the second half. Portland took the lead in the 60th minute after a handball in the box by St. Louis. Evander confidently converted the spot-kick, claiming the first road lead of 2023 for the Timbers.

Yimmi Chara, returning from injury, was subbed on in the 64th minute to boost the attack. St. Louis equalized in the 78th minute through Celio Pompeu, setting the stage for a dramatic finale. Portland retook the lead in the 83rd minute when Santiago Moreno set up Yimmi Chara for a decisive shot that left St. Louis' goalkeeper rooted to the spot. The Timbers held firm in the final minutes, securing a 2-1 victory.
