Timbers defenders Larrys Mabiala and Dario Zuparic undergo successful athletic pubalgia surgeries

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers announced today that defenders Larrys Mabiala and Dario Zuparic have undergone successful athletic pubalgia surgeries to repair sports hernias. The procedures were performed by Dr. Bill Hutchinson in Santa Monica, Calif.

Zuparic developed a hernia last season, which was managed through the playoffs. Symptoms did not resolve with rest and treatment during the offseason, so Zuparic and the club chose to perform preseason surgery to allow for an early return during the regular season.

Mabiala’s hernia presented earlier this week and it was also decided that early intervention would be the best course to ensure an early season return.

Mabiala and Zuparic will conduct their rehabilitation with the Timbers sports medicine staff at Providence Park and at the Providence Sports Care Center. They are expected to return in approximately six weeks.
