With the conference season in full swing, several Timbers Academy alumni are playing important roles for their respective college teams with postseason tournaments looming in the not so distant future.
The University of Akron posted their biggest win of the season, a 5-0 victory over Cleveland State on Tuesday night as three Timbers Academy alumni saw action for the Zips. Defender Niko De Vera appeared in his second match for Akron, coming off the bench to help preserve the shutout, while midfielder Jesse Garcia-Aguilar made his 15th appearance (10th start) and forward Anthony Macchione featured in his 14th match for the Zips. Akron (9-5-1, 2-1 MAC) takes on Northern Illinois on Saturday in the first of their final three regular-season matches.
Collin Partee’s impressive freshman season continues as the Utah Valley University goalkeeper is ranked second in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and 13th nationally with an .831 saves percentage and has helped guide UVU to a 6-6-1 overall mark in their first-ever season. A Timbers Academy alum, Partee’s 0.83 goals-against average ranks second in the conference as the Wolverines have conceded only 11 goals in 13 games. The Wolverines’ freshman has conceded more than one goal in a game only once in 12 matches. Utah Valley plays host to Incarnate Word (Friday) and Houston Baptist (Sunday) in consecutive home conference matches.
Stanford forward Foster Langsdorf came off the bench to provide his first collegiate assist in Stanford’s 3-0 win over USF on Oct. 24. The Timbers Academy alum has featured in seven straight matches, dating back to Sept. 26 when he scored his first collegiate goal in a 3-0 win over Gonzaga. No. 8-ranked Stanford (9-2-2, 2-1-2 Pacific-12) has lost just one match in that span, with Langsdorf contributing at least one shot on target in four of the seven games. Stanford faces No. 1 UCLA on the road Thursday before taking on San Diego State on Sunday.
At the NAIA and Junior College level, forward Octavio Hermosillo scored a hat-trick and had an assist for Clark College in a 7-0 win over Southwest Oregon on Oct. 22 and added another goal in a 6-0 win over Multnomah University on Wednesday. With the result, Clark clinched the NWAAC South Region regular-season title. The Penguins have conceded just nine goals in 20 games this season, while Hermosillo is tied for the team lead and ranks ninth in the conference with nine goals scored.
Concordia forward Timur Zhividze scored in a fourth straight match to help lead the Cavaliers to a 3-2 win over Northwest Christian on Oct. 25, clinching a playoff berth in the Cascadia Collegiate Conference (CCC). Concordia has won its last four matches as Zhividze has tallied seven goals in his last six appearances. Zhividze is currently fifth in the conference in goals (9).
