Goalkeeper Lauren Rood, a native of Camas, Wash., who plays for adidas Timbers Alliance club Washington Timbers, recently helped the U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team to a third-place finish in the 2013 CONCACAF U-17 Women’s Championship held in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Rood appeared in three of the team’s five games during the tournament, recording two shutouts. She anchored a defense that did not allow a shot in an 8-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago on Oct. 31, picking up her second career clean sheet with the U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team. Rood registered two saves in a 2-0 victory over Canada in the final match of group play on Nov. 4, helping the U.S. book its place in the tournament semifinal against Mexico.

With a berth in the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup on the line, the U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team, with Rood in goal, played Mexico to a nail-biting 1-1 draw in the semifinal on Nov. 7, forcing the match to be decided on penalty kicks. Rood made two saves during regulation and nearly made a save in the shootout, getting her finger tips to a shot in the fourth round, but Mexico would eventually prevail on PKs, 4-2.

The U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team would go on to defeat Jamaica, 8-0, in the third-place match on Nov. 9.
