PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC forward Jodie Taylor was named to the 23-player England Women’s National Team roster for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada, it was announced today. The roster will not become official until it is submitted to FIFA on May 25, which is the deadline for all teams to submit their final squads.
The England Women’s National Team will face off against Canada in a final tune-up before the World Cup on May 29 at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario; kickoff is set for 4 p.m. (Pacific). England was drawn into Group F and takes on France, Colombia and Mexico during the group stage. The Three Lionesses open the tournament with a pair of matches at Moncton Stadium in Moncton, New Brunswick against France on June 9 at 10 a.m. (Pacific) and Mexico on June 13 at 1 p.m. (Pacific). England finishes group play in Montreal at the Olympic Stadium against Colombia; kickoff is set for 1 p.m. (Pacific). The 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup runs from June 6-July 5 and all 52 games will be shown live on FOX, FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports 2 and on tablets and mobile devices through the FOX Sports GO app and FOXSportsGO.com.
Taylor, 28, has earned eight international caps for England, scoring four goals. The Thorns FC forward made her debut for England on March 8, 2014, in an international friendly against Sweden. This marks her first FIFA Women’s World Cup roster selection for England. Taylor tallied her first international goal, a hat-trick, in a 3-0 win against Australia at the Cyprus Cup on March 6. Before departing for national team camp, Taylor appeared in two matches for Portland, making her debut for the club on April 11 against the Boston Breakers as a second-half substitute. She earned her first start in a 1-0 win against the Western New York Flash on April 18.
