PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC will play host to the Boston Breakers in the team’s home-opening match of the 2015 National Women’s Soccer League season at Providence Park on Saturday, April 11, at 7 p.m. (Pacific), it was announced today as the NWSL unveiled details for each club’s home opener for 2015.
Portland’s match on April 11 will mark the first time that Thorns FC opens the season at Providence Park. Since the inaugural 2013 season, Portland has opened the season on the road against FC Kansas City (2013) and the Houston Dash (2014).
Thorns FC are 2-0-0 in NWSL home openers. In 2013, Portland earned a 2-1 win against Seattle Reign FC on April 21, while Thorns FC registered a 3-1 victory in the 2014 home opener against FC Kansas City on April 26.
In Portland’s only meeting at home against Boston in 2014, forward Christine Sinclair scored the club's first hat-trick in the highest-scoring match in league history as Thorns FC recorded a 6-3 win over the Breakers on July 20 at Providence Park.
The complete 2015 regular-season schedule will be released at a later date.
