Full moon, Timbers vs. FCD, 4.4.15

The Portland Timbers defeated FC Dallas 3-1 Saturday night at Providence Park, securing the club's first victory of the 2015 season and continuing a streak of having not lost in its last ten home games played on the same day as a Full Moon. Here are more #StatMan takeaways for Saturday's match-

Nat Borchers gave the Timbers the lead in the first half when he headed home a Jorge Villafaña corner kick. The goal means the six-foot-two centerback, who wears No.7 for the Timbers, has now scored in seven consecutive MLS seasons.

Darlington Nagbe had another succesful passing night for Portland, successfully completing 23 of 25 passes while also having a secondary assist on Maxi Urruti's game-winning goal. It was Nagbe's 17th career assist for the Timbers, which ties him for seventh place for the most career assists in the 40 years of the club.

1-for-1After scoring twice on his birthday last season (April 5 vs. Seattle), Diego Chara scored on the eve of the birthday this year to give the Timbers the 3-1 victory. Chara's goal was on the first shot he had taken in 2015, marking the second consecutive season the Colombian scored on his first shot of the year.

Bonus #StatMan Stat: In the early hours of this morning, a lunar eclipse took place and was visible in portions of North America. The Timbers are now 5-0-0 in the last five matches they have played the same day as a lunar eclipse, dating back to the USL-era. Portland has scored 11 goals in those matches, while conceding only two.
