#StatMan Three | Diego Valeri scores his second season-opening day goal of his career for Portland Timbers

The Portland Timbers started the 2016 MLS season just as it finished the 2015 season with a 2-1 victory against Columbus Crew SC. Here are three #StatMan takeaways from #PORvCLB.

2 For the second time as a Timbers player, Diego Valeri scored in a season-opening match at Providence Park. The Argentine maestro also scored in his club debut in the 2013 season opener. Valeri's free kick goal was also the second time in his career that he has scored directly from a free kick.

26Fanendo Adi delivered the game-winning goal in the 79th minute to give the Timbers the victory. The goal is the 26th scored by Adi for Portland, moving him out of a tie with Ryan Pore and into seventh place by himself across all eras (since 1975) among all-time Timbers’ goal-scorers.

6 Valeri and Dairon Asprilla were constant threats throughout the game with each player firing six shots for the match. It is only the third time in MLS club history that the Timbers had multiple players with six or more shots in a single game.
