#StatMan Three | Diego Valeri continues his impressive free kick form

A late free-kick goal from the foot of Diego Valeri was the difference, as the Portland Timbers defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 at Avaya Stadium Saturday night. Here are three key #StatMan takeaways from the match.

4 Valeri's goal was the fourth of his Timbers career that came direct from a free kick, which is third-most among MLS players since 2013. Only Didier Drogba and Sebastian Giovinco have had more goals from free kicks.

2 For the first time since August of 2015, the Timbers have won with consecutive shutouts. Moreover, goalkeeper Jeff Attinella has started in consecutive shutouts for the first time in his MLS career. In 43 career starts, Attinella has 11 clean sheets.

9 The victory was the ninth by the Timbers against San Jose in the MLS era. Only Vancouver Whitecaps FC have lost more to the Timbers in MLS play.
