Quick Strikes | Timbers open U.S. Open Cup campaign Tuesday in Seattle

Quick Strikes, USOC, 6.12.17

After two straight shutout wins in MLS play, the Portland Timbers head north to take on the rival Seattle Sounders FC in the fourth round of the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Tuesday at Starfire Sports Complex (7:30pm PT). Here are five numbers to know in a special U.S. Open Cup edition of Quick Strikes.

4 The Timbers are one of two teams to have beaten at least one MLS team in each of the last four U.S. Open Cups, along with the Chicago Fire. Timbers head coach Caleb Porter is the only manager to accomplish the feat in that span.

7 Tuesday's match will be the seventh time the Timbers and Sounders have played in the U.S. Open Cup. Portland has at least one goal in all six of the previous matches.

2007 There are four players on the Timbers active roster who have scored for the club in the tournament. The only one of those players who scored as a Portland player in their pre-MLS era is Lawrence Olum, who scored in a 2-0 victory at the Bakersfield Brigade in 2007.

3 In each of the last three U.S. Open Cup games between the Portland and Seattle, the match has needed extra time to decide a winner. In 2010, the match ended in penalty kicks while the last two matches have ended in 3-1 results.

13 Heading into the match, Portland has played on the road 13 times in U.S. Open Cup play. Five of those 13 matches have taken place in the state of Washington (three at Seattle, two at Kitsap Pumas).
