Quick Strikes | Providence Park has provided home-field advantage in Open Cup play

Providence Park #2, Timbers vs. LAFC, 6.1.19

The Portland Timbers will take on LA Galaxy in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 on Wednesday at Providence Park (8pm, TICKETS, ESPN+). Here are five numbers to know for #PORvLA in the latest Quick Strikes.

8 Since 2013, the Timbers have eight wins against MLS opponents in U.S. Open Cup play. That is the third-most of any team in that time span and includes wins over MLS opponents in six of the last seven U.S. Open Cups.

2 With a brace against Seattle Sounders FC in the last round, forward Brian Fernandez became the fifth Timbers player in club history to score multiple goals in a single U.S. Open Cup match. Fernandez is the first player to accomplish the feat since 2014 when Gastón Fernandez notched two braces that year.

6 In their last seven home games in the competition, the Timbers have a record of 6-1 at Providence Park. In those matches, Portland has outscored opponents by a 15-2 margin.

3 This will be the third time that the Timbers and Galaxy have met in the last four seasons in the U.S. Open Cup. Both of the previous matches ended 1-0.

4 Against the Sounders, Portland had four players make their debut in the competition. In addition to Brian Fernandez, Jorge Moreira, Claude Dielna, and Tomás Conechny each saw the field in the Fourth Round.
