Quick Strikes | Diego Valeri, Sebastián Blanco sparking Timbers attack with similar numbers

Diego Valeri, Sebastian Blanco, Timbers @ Chicago, 3.31.18

After winning every match in the month of May, the Portland Timbers will kick off its June slate with a Saturday afternoon clash with the LA Galaxy at Providence Park (2pm PT, ESPN2). Here are five numbers to know for #PORvLA in the latest edition of Quick Strikes.

6The Timbers are the first team to win six consecutive matches while playing in the MLS's Western Conference since the San Jose Earthquakes had a six-game run in 2005. On Saturday, Portland will look to match the longest regular-season win streak in MLS play (7) since the league added draws to matches in 2000.

3 In his last 86 minutes of action, Samuel Armenteros has scored three goals including two in the club's 3-2 win last week over the Colorado Rapids.

5/3 Both Diego Valeri and Sebastián Blanco have five goals and three assists this season. The Timbers are one of three teams (LAFC and NYCFC being the others) with multiple players who have at least five goals and three assists in 2018.

27 Defender Zarek Valentin, who has played in every match this season for Portland, leads the club in tackles with 27 and is tied for the club lead in interceptions with 22. Valentin has started 10 straight MLS matches, which matches his most consecutive starts since joining the Timbers in 2016.

1996 Head Coach Giovanni Saverese has a history with the LA Galaxy, having scored against the club on his MLS debut on April 13, 1996. Saverese scored two goals and recorded an assist in his 11 career matches against the Galaxy.
