Steve Clark, Timbers vs. LA, 7.27.19

A month after defeating the LA Galaxy, 4-0, in the U.S. Open Cup, the Portland Timbers repeated the scoreline on July 27, 2019 at Providence Park to give the home side a commanding victory. Goalkeeper Steve Clark delivered the shutout while on the offensive end the club scored twice in each half.

150History Books – In the first half, Diego Valeri delivered both a goal and an assist, giving 150 combined goals and assists for his MLS career. Valeri became the 13th player in league history to reach 150 combined goals and assists. 


16Add to the list – With his brace, Cristhian Paredes became the 16th different Timbers player with a multi-goal game in MLS play. It was the second brace of Paredes' career, who also accomplished the feat for Paraguayan Primera División side, Sol de América on May 11, 2016. 


6Career High – Clark delivered six saves with the most notable being a pointblank save on Uriel Antuna in the 75th minute. Clark tied his career high for most saves in a shutout with the six stops. 


2Déjà vu – For the second time in his career, defender Jorge Villafaña had multiple assists in a single match. Both matches came against the Galaxy with the Anaheim, Calif. native also having two assists in Portland's 5-2 victory over the Galaxy on Oct. 18, 2015. 


1Surprise! On Portland's final goal, midfielder Renzo Zambrano played the ball wide to Villafaña who then served in a cross that was headed home by Jeremy Ebobisse. The pass was the first assist of Zambrano's MLS career.
