Providence Park Update | The BIG crane arrives

The Big Crane

The skyline around Providence Park welcomed a new and very visible neighbor in February as Turner Construction set up a massive tower crane on the stadium's east side. The crane will stay up throughout the 2018 MLS and NWSL season as work continues in that area of the building.

To get that that point, however, a 600 ton mobile crane had to go down to the field to lift sections of the tower crane into place.

Meanwhile, concrete apron and stairs at the field level along the easter side are completed. The storm detention system is also completed, concrete apron and stair poured back, and rock prepped for playing surface section to be installed.

With the tower crane up, work on the field is complete for this offseason. The temporary road and bridge that runs over the underground Tanner Creek will soon be removed soon to allow for the playing surface to be replaced ahead of the Timbers and Thorns regular season.

On the eastern concourse, Turner's self-perform concrete crews are building the concrete structure base for the expansion levels and the team is pushing to get the stadium back together and set for a April 14 kick.
