#PORvCHV on #RCTID: Summer nights, a sunflower and that Valeri is so hot right now

Social Media Header Aug. 9 b

It wasn't just a full moon, it was a super moon on a beautiful summer night in Portland, but there was nothing mysterious about the Timbers' 2-0 win over Chivas USA at Providence Park. Another game with yet another Diego Valeri goal to pave the way to victory. But aside from the goals and three points, there was a special moment tonight with one of the club's greats, Timber Jim.

Here are posts, pictures and videos from across social media on #PORvCHV

It was a warm night in the Rose City. Just a few short nights removed from the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game, the game faces were on point.

Valeri is so hot right now, having scored in each of his last four games and in five of the last six. Not to mention he just assisted on the game-winning goal in the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday night. And Portland Trail Blazer Meyers Leonard was in the house to see the Timbers' Maestro in person.

Rodney Wallace added to the Timbers' lead late in the first half, scoring his first goal of the season. Up through the crowd went the flag with the rising sun and more goals, equals more smoke.

At every home Timbers match, the Timbers Army sings, "You Are My Sunshine," in the 80th minute. It's a tradition that started long ago, even before the Timbers joined MLS (to learn more read this article from the Oregonian this week). But to make it more special on this night, club great and Ring of Honor member, Timber Jim, joined in leading the song.

Summer nights in the Rose City don't get much better than this. As the sun set you could see the super moon starting to rise in the Portland skyline beyond Providence Park.

The Timbers saw out the 2-0 victory over Chivas USA and, with the win, climbed up the table to a share of fifth place - that final postseason spot - in the Western Conference with the Colorado Rapids. What a week of soccer it has been in Soccer City, USA.
