PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers have re-signed defender/midfielder Amobi Okugo, it was announced today.

Okugo, 25, has made 139 league appearances (113 starts) during a seven-year career in MLS, recording five goals, seven assists and 10,302 minutes played since being drafted by the Philadelphia Union as the sixth-overall pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.

“We are pleased to have Amobi back for the 2017 season and look forward to his continued contributions as a versatile and experienced player on our roster,” said Gavin Wilkinson, general manager and president of soccer for the Timbers.

Originally signed by the Timbers on May 16, 2016, Okugo made six appearances (3 starts) across all competitions for Portland in 2016, including four league appearances and two CONCACAF Champions League appearances.

"Amobi will continue to give us experience and depth in two positions and when called upon like last year, we know he has the ability to step in and get the job done," said Caleb Porter, head coach of the Timbers.

Prior to joining the Timbers, the Hayward, Calif., native made 135 appearances (111 starts) with the Union, Orlando City SC and Sporting Kansas City from 2010-2015.
