The Timbers now know their next U.S. Open Cup opponent.
U.S. Soccer held the draw today for the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 in Chicago. The Portland Timbers, grouped in the West Region, drew the LA Galaxy with the match to take place at Providence Park.
Details regarding the date and ticket information are still to come. The winner of the match will then host the quarterfinal game against the winner of the other West Region Round of 16 match up between Seattle Sounders FC and Real Salt Lake.
This will be the first time the Timbers and Galaxy have ever faced each other in the U.S. Open Cup competition.
The Timbers advanced to the round following their 2-0 fourth round victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on Tuesday.
