"I told him knee surgery or not, get in the car, we’re going to the game. … We’re here to see the Timbers, but also to see what the preseason looks like.”
In an interview with the Arizona Daily Star, Portland Timbers supporter Linda Knight and her husband, Spencer, talked about how they drove six hours through the driving rain from Palm Desert, Calif. on Saturday to watch the Portland TImbers beat Sporting Kansas City 2-0 in their first preseason match of 2015.
That is dedication.
Knight explained how she became a Timbers supporter in 2011 after seeing a Timbers victory over the Houston Dynamo in the Rose City.
“The stadium was full, absolutely packed as it always is, and I just couldn’t believe what I saw. I just got instantly caught up in the energy. We won that game. … I came home and my husband said, ‘What the hell happened to my wife?’”
The Knights joined a group of Timbers fans Saturday at the Kino Sports Complex who were out in force: Timbers flags and even the trademark green smoke could be seen after Gastón Fernández's 30th minute PK.
Head on over to the Arizona Daily Star to see what trip Knight has next in store.
