MATCH RECAP | Vancouver Whitecaps FC 1, Portland Timbers 0

VANCOUVER, BC – The Portland Timbers, despite outshooting Vancouver Whitecaps FC 27-12 and playing strong throughout, lost 1-0 Friday evening at BC Place. A ninth minute goal from Vancouver's Fredy Montero was the difference.

Match Moments

9' - GOAL (VAN) - The Whitecaps went out to an early lead when forward Fredy Montero pounced on a misplayed clearance and hit it into the upper netting for a 1-0 scoreline.

11' - CHANCE (POR) - The Timbers nearly tied it two minutes later when defender Jorge Moreira lofted a cross into the mixer that forward Jeremy Ebobisse headed over the bar.

15' - CHANCE (POR) - Moreira, sprung by a ball from Diego Chara, raced past a Caps defender and cut in towards goal. His low shot skipped into the six-yard box but was narrowly cleared away.

25' - CHANCE (POR) - The Timbers had two great chances on back-to-back corner kicks. The first was a header from Larrys Mabiala and the second also a header from Bill Tuiloma. Both were narrowly saved by Vancouver goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau.

52' - CHANCE (POR) - Sebastián Blanco, out wide on the left, snuck a sharp-angled shot on frame that forced a diving save from Crépeau.

72' - CHANCE (POR) - Blanco put together some good footwork on the left side to slip a ball to Diego Valeri on the doorstep of the Vancouver net but his shot was narrowly saved by Crépeau.

80' - CHANCE (POR) - Blanco again had a good opportunity when he first looped a ball to the back post and then pounced on the loose ball to head a shot on goal that was blocked out for a corner.
