COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Portland Timbers received first-half goals from forward Fanendo Adi and winger Dairon Asprilla, but surrendered a late goal in the second half, falling 3-2 to Columbus Crew SC at MAPFRE Stadium on Saturday night. With his fourth goal of the season, Adi moved into a tie with John Bain for the most goals scored (45) in Timbers history across all eras of the club (since 1975).

Match Moments
4’ – GOAL. Portland jumped out to an early lead after a bit of sustained Timbers possession. Midfielder Sebastián Blanco cut in from the left side of the field before threading a beautiful pass through the Columbus defense to Asprilla on his right. Asprilla carried into the 18-yard box before firing a spinning shot that found the far left, lower corner.
11’ – GOAL. Columbus tied it up seven minutes later on a set piece. After a Frederico Higuain corner found its way into the mixer, Crew SC forward Justin Meram tapped in a loose ball to make it 1-1.
19’ – GOAL. The Crew then took a 2-1 lead in the 19th minute on a counter as forward Ola Kamara ran on to a ball from over the top and volleyed it over goalkeeper Jake Gleeson.
30’ – CHANCE. Blanco, operating in the middle, found Portland’s Diego Valeri about 20 yards from goal. Valeri spun free to hit a bouncing shot that beat Crew SC goalkeeper Zac Steffen but pinged off the left post.
45+3‘ – GOAL. Timbers forward Fanendo Adi received a nice ball from the right from defender Alvas Powell, took a touch and then hammered it past Steffen to tie the score just before the half at 2-2. The goal tied Adi with Timbers NASL great John Bain for the most goals scored by a player in Timbers history at 45.
46’ – CHANCE. The Timbers came storming out from the half. Adi jumped to loop a header on frame that forced a diving stop from Steffen to tip it over the bar.
84’ – GOAL. After a number of chances for both sides, Crew SC scored late when forward Niko Hansen jumped on a rebound following a strong save from Gleeson to score and make it 3-2.
The Timbers return home next weekend to host the New England Revolution at Providence Park on April 2 (6pm PT, ESPN2).
