The Timbers open Leagues Cup 2025 later this month, and welcome Liga MX clubs Atlético San Luis and Querétaro to Providence Park in Phase One play.

Featuring MLS vs. Liga MX (Mexico) clubs, Leagues Cup opens with Phase One play at the end of July. The Timbers play host to Liga MX's Atlético de San Luis and Querétaro FC at Providence Park on July 30 and August 2, respectively. They then travel to Austin, Texas, to take on Club América at Q2 Stadium on Aug. 6.

Welcoming the Potosinos to the Rose City
Playing in Portland for the first time is Atlético de San Luis; the official club for the state and city of the same name - San Luis Potosi. As part of an alliance with Atlético de Madrid from Spain's top flight La Liga in 2016, the club adopted the name, colors, and likeness of the Spanish giants following a majority acquisiton by the Madrid club. Since then, they've enjoyed success, earning top-flight status in 2019.
Atlético de San Luis have been powered offensively by French striker Sebastian Lamonge. Uruguayan defender Juana Sanabria dished out five assists and added a goal in the Clausura 2025 season.

Liga MX's Querétaro visits the Rose City for Leagues Cup

A duel with the Roosters in Portland
The Gallos Blancos of Querétaro FC will make their first visit to the Rose City this summer. Hailing from the capital of the state of Querétaro, the club has been around in one way or another for nearly 75 years, spending various amounts of time in different tiers of Mexican soccer throughout its history. They have enjoyed a period of stability as of late, gaining promotion to Liga MX in 2008 and success with some high-profile signings, including Brazilian legend Ronaldinho (2014-15). Their most successful run came in the Clausura 2015 tournament, where they reached the Liga MX finals.
Former Mexico international Pablo Barrera leads the Gallos Blancos.
Timbers and Club América meet again
The Timbers travel to Austin, Texas, for their final Phase One match-up against Club América. The showdown is happening at Austin FC's Q2 Stadium.
Portland and América met just four years ago in the 2021 Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals. The Timbers gave the Mexican giants a hard fight at Providence Park, earning a 1-1 draw in stoppage time via a Felipe Mora goal from the spot.
Club América will have several stalwarts at their disposal for Leagues Cup 2025. In the Clausura 2025 season, four different players registered five or more goal contributions, including leading goalscorer and U.S. international Alejandro Zendejas, and Spanish midfielder Alvaro Fidalgo.
