MATCH PREVIEW


Playing their second match in five days, the Portland Timbers will return to league play this weekend, traveling to face Cascadia-rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place on Sunday, July 23. Beginning at 3:30 p.m. (Pacific), the match against Whitecaps FC will be broadcast live on FS1 with local radio broadcasts on 750 AM/102.9 FM The Game (English) and La GranD 1150 AM/93.5 FM (Spanish). Sunday’s match marks the second of three meetings between the two teams this season, with Portland taking a 2-1 win against Vancouver on April 22. Vancouver enters Sunday’s game coming off a 1-0 road win against the LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center on July 19. With a win against the Galaxy, Vancouver is riding a two-game winning streak, previously defeating New York City FC 3-2 on July 5. Forward Fredy Montero leads the team in goals (6).

The Portland Timbers fell 4-1 to Real Salt Lake before a sold-out crowd of 21,144 fans at Providence Park on July 19. Midfielder Jack Barmby scored the Timbers’ lone goal of the match in the 93rd minute, recording his first goal of the 2017 campaign.

Additionally, Portland’s eight wins against Vancouver is ranked as the most wins by the club against any team in the Timbers’ MLS era.
