International Notebook | Timbers defender Vytas helping Lithuania in World Cup qualifiers

Vytas, Lituania, 10.10.16

Portland Timbers defender Vytas made an appearance for the Lithuanian national team this weekend in their 1-1 draw with Scotland as part of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. Playing at historic Hampden Park in Glasgow, Vytas entered into the match in the 64th minute. A late 89th minute goal from Scotland split the points between the two teams with the draw putting Lithuania on two points after two matches and in fourth place in Group D.

Ahead of the match, Vytas was asked by The Scottish Sun newspaper to compare the famous Scotland fans, also known as The Tartan Army, with Portland's Timbers Army. For Vytas, it was no contest.

“The Timbers Army are just incredible. You can go on YouTube and watch videos, but they don’t show you everything that goes on.
“The noise, the passion, the colour, the sound, it’s fantastic. They are among the best supporters in the world."
