Portland Timbers forward Jeremy Ebobisse and the U.S. U-20s pulled off an historic win in Costa Rica Monday afternoon as they beat Mexico 1-0 in the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championships' classification stage. It was the Mexico's first loss in the tournament since 2009 and the first win for the U.S. U-20s over their Mexican U-20 counterparts in 31 years.

With the victory, the U.S. now sit atop Group D heading into their final classification group game against El Salvador on Mar. 3 (3:30pm PT, CONCACAF Facebook). A win there will not only see the Americans qualify for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup, but also put them into this tournament's championship game.

Ebobisse received his fourth straight tournament start for the U.S. playing 57 minutes in the match. The U.S. took the lead in the 29th minute as Sporting Kansas City's Erik Palmer-Brown headed home a corner kick from Brooks Lennon. From there, the Americans calmly held off any Mexican attack and closed out the win.
