International Notebook | David Guzmán and Costa Rica beat Trinidad & Tobago 2-1 in World Cup qualifier

David Guzmán, Costa Rica vs. T&T, 6.13.17

Appearing in his second straight 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier, Portland Timbers midfielder David Guzmán helped Costa Rica to a 2-1 win over Trinidad & Tobago Tuesday night in San Jose, Costa Rica. The appearance was Guzmán's 26th cap with the national team.

Guzmán came on for the final 30 minutes of the match to help secure an important three points in the CONCACAF hexagonal. The win puts the Ticos at second place with a high percentage of of qualifying for next summer's World Cup in Russia. The top three teams of the group will advance with the fourth place team playing the fifth place finisher from Asia in a playoff. 

Also on Tuesday night, Timbers defender Alvas Powell played the full 90 for Jamaica in a 3-1 loss to Peru in an international friendly in Arequipa.
