PORTLAND, Ore. - There was a plethora of storylines in this Cascadia clash between the Timbers and Whitecaps FC - the history of the rivalry, Cascadia, playoff positioning on the line. Portland turned in a mature, confident performance under pressure and secured a 3-0 win behind goals from Diego Valeri and Fanendo Adi.
The Timbers opened the scoring in the 28th minute as Diego Valeri scored another majestic goal, volleying in a cross from defender Jorge Villafana.
Fanendo Adi scored twice within a five-minute span in the second half to extend the Timbers lead to three. Valeri orchestrates the break on Adi's first goal of the day.
All he does is score braces. Adi finds the back of the net within moments of his first goal to secure an important win to move the Timbers back above the red line.
