Goals: Portland Timbers @ Chivas USA - Sept. 14, 2013

Diego Valeri, Timbers @ RSL, 8.7.13

Despite controlling much of the first half with possession and solid passing numbers for the Portland Timbers, it was Chivas USA who got on the board first. Goats midfielder Edgar Meija went down the left wing before crossing in a ball that found Bryan de la Fuente for a header back post to make it 1-0.

While de la Fuente's goal was all the scoring as the teams went into halftime, the Timbers came out after the break with a key substitution: Diego Valeri in for Kalif Alhassan. Portland played with some renewed energy and on a great counter that saw both Darlington Nagbe and Valeri pull the attack upfield, the ball pinged around in the 18-yard box with Jose Valencia contributing some nice hold up play. Finally, the ball found its way to the savvy Argentine Valeri who slammed it home for the equalizer.
