2020 SuperDraft, 12.13.19

Major League Soccer on Friday announced details for the 2020 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas, which is evolving with a new streamlined draft process and innovative opportunities for fans to engage with media partners ESPN and Twitter.

The 2020 SuperDraft, scheduled for Jan. 9 at 9am PT, will be conducted during a jointly produced MLS and ESPN show streamed live on Twitter, with a Twitter event card that includes the draft livestream and real-time highlights from the event all in one comprehensive experience.

The SuperDraft will be conducted in four rounds with 26 players selected in each round. The first two rounds will take place during the stream, while Rounds 3 and 4 will take place on Jan. 13. To streamline the process, clubs now will be permitted three minutes — down from four previously — to make their selections, and there will be no intermission between rounds. See the complete draft rules and procedures for more details.

The Portland Timbers currently hold the 16th pick in the first (No. 16 overall), third (No. 68 overall and fourth round (94th overall). Expansion club Inter Miami CF hold the first overall pick.

The live stream will feature cameras embedded with players and club decision-makers for real-time draftee reactions, live look-ins on club draft rooms, and instant engagement from fans on Twitter during the first round. Additional content and analysis will be provided across MLS league and club digital and social channels.

The draft will also stream live on the ESPN App, YouTube and Facebook.

The eligible player list for the 2020 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas will be announced on Monday, Dec. 30, following the 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase (Dec. 13-15).
