Copa América | Timbers’ Crépeau, Miller help Canada to first win

With the help of Timbers duo, Maxime Crépeau and Kamal Miller, Canada earned its first Copa América win on Tuesday, defeating Peru and Portland defender Miguel Araujo, 1-0, in Kansas City.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Portland Timbers goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau and defender Kamal Miller helped Canda earn its first-ever Copa América win on Tuesday night, defeating club teammate Miguel Araujo and Peru, 1-0, at Children’s Mercy Park.

After earning Player of the Match honors for Canada in Game 1, Crépeau featured again against Peru and secured another shutout with multiple important stops, two of which came in the late stages of second-half stoppage time.

Miller made his Copa América 2024 debut for Canada, entering the win as a sub at halftime.

With the win, Canada improves to 1-1-0 (3pts) in the Group A standings and sits in second place.

In the 59th minute, Peru was reduced to 10 players following a red card issued to Araujo as a result of a hard foul. Peru falls to 0-1-1 (1pt) and into fourth place in Group A.
