Though the Portland Timbers are set to embark on their first ever international club competition Tuesday night against Alpha United in the CONCACAF Champions League (5pm PT, FOX Soccer Plus), it is not the first international club experience for many of the players on the squad.
Between CCL, Copa Libertadores and UEFA Champions League, there’s a host of players who’ve taken on the challenge of international football.
Fanendo Adi – UEFA Champions League (2013-14 with FC Copenhagen).
Diego Chara – Copa Sudamericana (2011 with Tolima) and Copa Libertadores (2009 with América de Cali).
Gastón Fernández – Copa Libertadores (2011, 2010, 2009 with Estudiantes, 2005 with River Plate) and Copa Sudamericana (2010, 2008 with Estudiantes). Fernández scored a goal in Estudiantes 2-1 victory over Brazil’s Cruzeiro in the 2009 Copa Libertadores championship.
Will Johnson – CONCACAF Champions Leauge (2012-13, 2010-11 with Real Salt Lake)
Pa Modou Kah – UEFA Cup now known as UEFA Europa League (2003-04 with AIK)
Rauwshan McKenzie – CONCACAF Champions League (2010-11 with Real Salt Lake)

Soccer Celebration | June 12-15 in Pioneer Courthouse Square
The Timbers Soccer Celebration will be at Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square this June.! With supporting partners adidas and McDonald’s, the Soccer Celebration will feature interactive activities, local food carts, merchandise stands, fan giveaways as well as live viewings of select FIFA World Cup 26™ matches, all taking place in “Portland’s living room” from June 12-June 15. The events are free to attend for fans of all ages.
