Allie Long's hard work has her back with USWNT | The Backcut

Allie Long celebrates goal, 5.21.14

Good things come to those who wait, and work hard. Portland Thorns FC midfielder earned her third call-up to the U.S. Women’s National Team this year as the United States takes on Switzerland in a friendly Wednesday in North Carolina.

For Allie, the road back into the USWNT fold has been filled with hard work, determination and hope. Allie earned her first senior national team call-up in 2010, but sustained an injury in her first training session with the squad. SoccerByIves.net’s Caitlin Murray spoke with Allie on what the last four years have been like for her and she asked head coach Jill Ellis what Allie brings to the side.

And this USWNT call-up, for Allie, is a particularly special, as she returns to North Carolina where she starred during her collegiate career at UNC.

The U.S. Women’s National Team, with Allie and Thorns FC teammate Alex Morgan, take on Switzerland at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., on Wednesday; kickoff is 4:30 p.m. (Pacific). Watch a live broadcast on www.ussoccer.com.
