Academy Update | Timbers U-19s, U-17s compete in Winter Showcase in Florida

The Timbers Academy U-19 and U-17 sides competed in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase down in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., between Nov. 30 and Dec. 4. 
The Timbers U-19s won two of their three matches at the Showcase, defeating the Houston Dynamo Academy and D.C. United Academy and finishing with a 2-1-0 record.

(17th minute) and
Vitalis Takawira
(47th minute) helped the Timbers U-19s overturn an early, 1-0 deficit to record a 2-1 victory against the Houston Dynamo Academy on Dec. 1.
A three-goal second half guided the Timbers U-19s to a 3-0 result against D.C. United Academy on Dec. 3.
John Klein
kicked off the scoring in the 54th minute, followed by a strike from
Giovanni Calixtro
in the 59th minute.
Anthony Herbert
sealed the win with a 90th-minute tally. 
The team lost, 1-0, to Baltimore Armour in their opening match of the Showcase on Nov. 30. 



The Timbers U-17s defeated Orlando City Academy, 3-0, in their only win during the Showcase.
Rian Jamai
continued his scoring ways with another two-goal performance against Orlando City, scoring in the third and 60th minutes.
Francisco Raggio
scored in the 36th minute, helping Portland build a 2-0 lead at the half. 
Jamai has had two-goal performances in three of the team’s last four games. 
The team lost its two other matches while down in Florida, opening the Showcase with a 3-0 loss to Baltimore Armour on Dec. 1. The Colorado Rapids Academy capitalized on an 85th minute goal to earn a 1-0 win against the Timbers U-17s on Dec. 4.
